SPANISH MIDFIELDERS PLAY CRUCIAL ROLE

Fernando Torres has said that Spanish midfielders David Silva and Juan Mata are extremely crucial to the quality of the match between Manchester City and Chelsea on Wednesday night.

Manchester City will be hosting Chelsea at the Etihad stadium looking to do what Chelsea did to them earlier in the season at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea managed to come from behind to win the match 2-1, which handed Manchester City their first defeat of the season. Chelsea can now inflict the first home defeat of the season for Manchester City. Both sides have been extremely reliant on the quality offered by the Spanish midfielders David Silva and Juan Mata.

Both these players currently lead the standings when it comes to the most a number of assists. The return to form for Fernando Torres has been largely aided by the presence of Juan Mata on the field. Both the Spanish players seem to have developed a rapport, which has been transformed on the pitch.

New Chelsea manager Roberto di Matteo has been using the 4-2-3-1 formation, which is very much similar to the one used by Liverpool under Rafa Benitez. It was highly successful for Fernando Torres. Now, the Spaniard has just returned from a goal drought after having scored two goals in the match against Leicester City.

“Both are key players for their teams and when they have a good day they can win the game themselves, not just scoring but by also assisting and being the main man. When a team is having a bad period in a game the other players are always looking for these kind of players who have the ability with the ball, so I am very lucky to have the chance to play with both of them in the national team,” the striker told the official website of Chelsea.

According to the latest Euro 2012 odds, Fernando and his team mates are slim favourites to retain their European Championship trophy – though much will depend on whether Torres and Villa are in top form.
