Fernando Torres has insisted that he has no envy of his teammates

Atletico Madrid forward Fernando Torres has insisted that he has no envy of his teammates, who get to play more regularly in the first-team under Diego Simeone.

Torres re-joined Atletico Madrid last January in loan deal that will stretch until the end of this season. Even though he was returning as a hero who had conquered all major trophies including the Champions League and the FIFA World Cup during his time away from the club, Torres was not seen as being more than an impact substitute in his second spell at Atletico. This appears to remain his position in the squad even after the departure of Mario Mandzukic.

Only time will tell if Torres will be able to grab a regular first-team spot. He needs to perform exceptionally well in the pre-season if he is to come close to doing so. Even though there is noMandzukic, the club has spent a vast sum of money in order to bring Jackson Martinez from FC Porto. The new striker is expected to lead the line with Torres remaining as the backup. Atletico failed to defend the league crown last season, but Torres says that this current squad looks capable of winning several titles in the coming campaign.

“If you have envy it is bad. I admire Raul Garcia, Gabi and Koke as I did with Kiko, MilinkoPantic and Jose Luis Caminero and the double team of 1995-96.My team-mates have marked the path for this club. This is the real Atletico and I can only admire them. Of course I want to win titles here, it is what I have always wanted and I will fight for it. Competition has always been hard and that’s what makes you win titles,” said the AC Milan striker, who has played only 10 games for his parent club.
