Fernando Torres fancies ex-club Liverpool to end their Premier League title wait

Former Spain international Fernando Torres has backed ex-club Liverpool to end their long-wait for the Premier League crown this campaign. The Reds have not won a single league title over the past decade which includes the Premier League era but Torres believes this could be their year to turn things around.

Speaking to reporters, he said:“At Chelsea there are still some team-mates that I played with but at Liverpool there is nobody there – only Alberto Moreno, who I played with at the national team. I am still in touch with the staff though so I wish them all the best. I know how important it is for Liverpool to win the Premier League. Hopefully they can win the Premier League and Chelsea can win it the year after.”

Liverpool have certainly opened the season with positive remarks after going unbeaten for the opening 13 league matches and they are currently just two points behind Manchester City in the title race. However, they have had the tendency in the past to suffer surprise defeats especially against teams in the lower half of the table and that is something they may need to avoid, if they are to end the extended wait for the English crown.

Meanwhile, another of Torres’ former clubs in Chelsea have performed impressively under the guidance of Maurizio Sarri but of late, they have gone through a rough patch. The west London giants were pretty much in the title hunt with just two points separating them from the Blues last month but things have changed since then with a couple of winless matches against Everton and Tottenham Hotspur which sees them seven points off the summit.

Owing to this, the focus could lie on the top-four race for the moment with London rivals Arsenal currently jostling with them for the final Champions League spot. Chelsea are presently fourth in the standings with 28 points while the Gunners are just behind them in fifth with a one-point deficit.
